Many scholars are confused about the difficulty of choosing a career after graduation. That condition, also in line with the Independent Campus policy, prompted President University (PresUniv) to present career course for all students since the first semester. To create a distinctiveness, Electrical Engineering study program named that course as Careers Portfolio in Electrical Engineering. Through this course, students will be guided from the start to choose the career they want.

Hendra J. Tarigan, a lecturer at the Electrical Engineering Study Program who teaches this course, conveyed the three methods he applied. First, he explained the material according to personal experience and those closest to him. Second, students are given the opportunity to interview people who are successful in their careers. The results of the interview will be presented in front of the class. Third, presenting speakers from outside PresUniv through webinars. Through interviews and webinars, Hendra hopes that students can learn directly from others' experiences and know the challenges that exist in the working world.

In this course, Hendra emphasized the importance of following an apprenticeship program in companies and introducing global companies operating in Indonesia. "This is important to invite students to careers globally," he said. He also introduced basic topics for Electrical Engineering such as Kirchhoff's Laws and Charging and Discharging of Capacitors, then shared tips on interviewing and writing a good CV. Hendra advised students not to be too picky about jobs and try to achieve good academic achievements. "At least, you can get a GPA of 3.0. This is because many companies see GPA figures in the recruitment process, as well as the requirements for continuing education to the S2 and S3 levels, "he said. Mahasiswa Prodi Teknik Elektro Belajar Karier Sejak Semester ke-1

(Silvia Desi Betrice, tim PR)
